Profile: Nathaniel on his passion for flying and martial arts.
| Name | Nathaniel Peat |
| Age | 29 |
| Lives | London |
| Business | Founder The Safety Box and Brunel Budo Martial Arts |
Black belt, martial arts expert Nathaniel started life at a tough comprehensive school in North London. After seeing many of his peers slip into lives of drugs and crime, he developed The Safety Box, a personal safety and life skills based business.
Nathaniel's earliest experience of making money was a paper round when he was 14 but he only lasted a week, saying 'it was a little bit too much work for too little money.'
Keen not to appear as a 'goody two-shoes', Nathaniel fell in with the wrong crowd at school and struggled to get the required GCSEs to go on to do A-Levels. However his father's strict discipline ensured Nathaniel started to focus on his schoolwork and he went on to get a Masters degree in engineering.
Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.
He's an accomplished musician playing and teaching the violin and saxophone. 'At Uni I had friends working seven hour days earning £30. I could get that in an hour teaching sax.'
Nathaniel saw the effect of knife crime personally when a 15-year-old friend was murdered trying to stop a fight in 2006. He says that confirmed to him there was a need to encourage and develop youngsters and proactively tackle the issue of knife crime and violence. The Safety Box is a programme targeting young people in school, raising their levels of awareness of violence on the streets and teaching them conflict resolution, verbal diffusion, aggression management, assertion tactics, safety awareness and personal confidence.
Nathaniel has grown the company from strength to strength and has ambitions to reach schools countrywide. In 2007 he was the 'Social and Community' winner of the Enterprising Young Brits competition.
Nathaniel went into business in part to realise his life long ambition to fly. He's been obsessed with planes as long as he can remember and is a qualified pilot.
Aspire to inspire, before you expire.
He is also an instructor in Martial arts and holds the rank of 4th Dan Black Belt in Karate.
Nathaniel feels a lot of his success comes from his self-belief and his faith in God. His favourite business saying is 'If you associate with turkeys you'll never fly with eagles.'
Nathaniel admits he's had failures in his life, but he's always overcome them. He has no fears about doing The Last Millionaire. He's up for the challenge and is looking forward to working with people who think the same way.
There's no way Nathaniel will say that he's going to be the first one home, but that's what he's going to be striving for. He's just hoping he'll be able to come up with some good ideas. He's hoping to inspire young people to 'get off their butts!'
Nathaniel says the things he'll miss most are his family, his girlfriend, his students and the business.
