Profile: Lucy on her view of life and how it's helped in business.
| Name | Lucy Cohen |
| Age | 25 |
| Lives | Cardiff |
| Business | Co-founder Mazuma UK Ltd |
Young, smart and shoe-obsessed Lucy is co-founder of Mazuma, an accountancy firm based in Cardiff.
Lucy says she's always been a driven, competitive person. At school she was naturally academic and would do her homework on the day it was given as she couldn't stand leaving things to the last minute.
There's no such word as can't. I believe anything can be done.
Lucy's first attempt at making money was selling bowls of Angel Delight with sweets in to the kids who lived nearby. She then tried making honey by collecting pollen from the garden, which didn't go down well with her Dad!
When she was in High school Lucy joined the Young Enterprise programme where she made furry pencil cases and pens. She says she's always been intrigued by running a business and making something for yourself.
When Lucy and co-founder Sophie Hughes started Mazuma, they wanted to create a brand that reflected their personalities that felt young, modern and dynamic. As two newly qualified, entrepreneurial individuals they hoped to challenge the stereotype that accounting is something 'old men in suits do'.
Lucy and Sophie rewrite their business plan every three months and are great believers in customer feedback. They also feel it's important that their staff understand and share their beliefs in the brand. In 2007 Lucy was the winner of the Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards for Wales.
I've recently taken up ice skating… I decided my life wasn't complicated enough so sliding around on two blades should just about do it!
Lucy believes an entrepreneur is someone who thinks outside the box and doesn't just play the hand they're dealt. She thinks a lot of people go down a set route in life, but an entrepreneur will carve out a different, better path.
Lucy loves business mantras and writes her favourites in a little book. At the moment she likes 'work smarter, not harder', 'form is temporary, class is permanent', 'tell the truth in advance' and 'believe in yourself'.
Lucy feels apprehensive about the challenge and the fact that five days isn't a lot of time to get to know somewhere or someone. But she likes to thinks she'll cope fine and that she'll be the first person to come home as she has the skills and determination to do it.
On The Last Millionaire Lucy is going to miss having a proper bed, her boyfriend and the emotional support of her close friends.
