Nick's Blog - Knockout 2

20th August 2008

Nick and Myleene

Nick gives us his take on the show with his weekly blog.

After the second knockout show, Nick talks about his pre-show ritual, how he loves the adrenaline rush of a live show and the BBC canteen 'paint stripper'!

"Hello everyone, can you believe there are only two more shows to go?!

"It was really tense today, exciting but tense, as we're into the final stages now. It's getting really edgy and the choirs are still very friendly but quietly determined - I guess now there are only four choirs it's bringing out their competitive spirit!

"It's an exhausting week for the choirs, and I think what keeps them going is the fear of being voted out plus the excitement and energy of being in a live show in front of the nation!

"Then I have to reveal who is in the bottom two and I just feel bad for them, it's that part of the show I really hate, but of course it's part of what we're here for and it's important that we do it.

"In between the main show and the results show I worry about who's going home, but I also make sure I've got the second show set in my head because you don't want to make any mistakes. It's really important when you make the announcements, to make sure you get it absolutely right.

Adrenaline junky

"I think one of the interesting things about nerves is that if you control them in the right way they can up your game and you'll do really well. So I tend to use my nerves, I enjoy being live. If we're not live, then I tend to stumble and make mistakes and if we are live then I tend to hit it bang on. It just gives me a kick of adrenaline and I'm a bit of an adrenaline junky so I quite like that!

"I have a little ritual before the show; I do this thing where in my head I put all my worries about what could go wrong and what I might do wrong into a little box. Then I close the box and put it aside and that seems to help!

BBC paint stripper!

"I don't tend to ask for any snacks for my dressing room, as I don't eat all day before I do the live show - although I'm eating a sarnie now just to catch up! But I do bring a couple of bottles of really nice white wine with me, as Sharon, Russell and I like to have a glass of a really good white wine after the show rather than the BBC canteen 'paint stripper'!

Hard work for remaining choirs

"The remaining four choirs have to work their socks off, they really have to, because you can't rely on how good you've been in the past. You can't rely on what you've got already and they know the other three choirs are going to come up with something amazing! All four choirs have different strengths and each of them know they are in a stiff competition, and they're just going to have to work harder and harder.

"Well make sure you watch the semi-final this Saturday at 6.30pm, I'm sure it will be another gripping show! And find out how you can ask me a question below....

P.S - "I'd just like to say happy birthday again to little Ava, Myleene's daughter. On Saturday I whipped out my guitar and we had a quick burst of 'Happy Birthday', but it was embarrassing really, as Myleene can play it on the harp and the piano. And she's got so many friends who are classical musicians and the poor baby ends up with me plinking it away on a nylon stringed guitar!

P.P.S - "Don't forget to find out what Myleene thought of the second knockout show in her weekly blog!"
