Get Singing in August, as the BBC stages two Last Choir Standing live events. A mass-singing workshop led by leading choral director, Mike Brewer OBE, will be interspersed with performances by choirs from the region. In addition to being director of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, and musical director of award winning chamber choir Laudibus, Mike is a world class choral trainer and has the ability to create incredible, participative singing experiences.
So, if you’re in a choir, enjoy singing in the shower, or have never sung before but would like to try then get involved.
Registration has now closed. However the events are taking place in public places and although it is no longer possible to register for a ticket within the seated areas you will still be able to watch the events on the Big Screens if you visit the locations.
People who have registered for tickets and have been successful in their application will be notified either by email or post depending on their method of registration and should have heard by Monday 4th August 2008. If you have not heard by this date please assume your application was unsuccessful.
The events will run for approximately 90 minutes and are taking place at:
- The BBC Big Screen, Queen Victoria Square, Hull, Saturday 9th August at 3.00pm
- The BBC Big Screen, Market Place, Derby, Saturday 16th August at 3.00pm
Both events will be hosted by well known, local presenters from TV and Radio. The singing event in Hull will be hosted by Peter Levy, presenter on Look North, and the Derby event will be hosted by Aleena Naylor, the voice of Radio Derby's Morning Show.
Performing in Hull will be 'Chechelele', an a cappella choir specialising in traditional world music, along with 'Gay Abandon' a four-part mixed choir with a repertoire ranging from contemporary to classical music. In Derby, the contemporary ladies choir 'DaleDiva' will be joined by 'Sosa Xa!' who perform Southern African songs.
Only Men Aloud! have signed a seven-figure record deal with Universal Music.
