More about the series
Broadcast for the first time in 1989, this is how the programme was billed at the time:This week our heroes are to be found in the backwaters of the Amazon searching for a creature which cannot make up its mind whether it is animal, vegetable or mineral. On a good day it's been mistaken for a floating aubergine; on a bad day or a mud bank, it conned the Jesuits into believing it was a fish and they ate it on Fridays, but in fact it's a totally harmless, somewhat stupid manatee.
