Where is the hole?
We had some German students at the college where I worked a few years ago, here in Scotland. For some recreation, we took them out to play golf at a course beside a loch. When I heard the students say Wo ist das Loch?, I thought I'd help by pointing to the loch and saying Das Loch ist da drĂ¼ben (over there). This was met by puzzled looks. It was only after the third or fourth time that the students realised what I was on about. They were in fact asking "Where is the hole?". In German Loch means hole while loch (or lake) translates as See.
