Make a point of speaking the language you're learning
Try out your new language at every opportunity. To avoid people speaking English to you, either to be helpful or simply to practise their English, make sure you know how to say e.g. 'I'm learning Italian' or 'I'd prefer to speak in Spanish.'

I have got an unusual question and would appreciate anybody who could help me. I am a Czech national and after 7 years of studying English I got quite fluent and fairly eloquent. Now I would like to combine yet another language. I have been particularly thinking about French but don't know if it is the right choice. I have read that French language is on the decline and in 5 or 10 years there will hardly be any demand for French speakers (translators, interpretors, etc.). French is still taught in many countries as a second language all over the world but is going to be like that in the future? What other languages will be practical in the foreseeable future besides Chinese? What about Brazilian Portugese or Arabic? Thanks everybody for any comment. Richard

If you use facebook and know your way around the site well enough, change your language settings to whatever language your learning allowing you to pick up new vocabulary and become accustomed to spelling and so on. I have mine set to Spanish and have picked up on both vocab. and spelling improvements.
