Listen to songs

Whenever I listen to a song, I try to look up the words in the lyrics (at least the ones I can understand!) They seem to come back to me easily whenever I hear the same words or whenever I try to use them!

Look up songs in the chosen language on YouTube. You can hear the lyrics, and translate the title, if nothing else, using your trusty dictionary. It also helps you learn more of the culture of the language - it's a good form of immersion. It's helping me improve my Greek.

I'm learning German by listening to Tokio Hotel and I'm learning French by listening to French bands since my mum is French.

I'm the same way with songs in a different language. With me when learning French or German I have to hear it enough times for it to stick in my brain and I can't forget them. Also with singing in a choir: just reading the words and then translating them - it is easier to speak them.

Tokio Hotel have helped me so much with my German, I owe most of my large German vocab to my obsessive fandom! Does anyone know a good French equivalent?

This is exactly right. Listening to songs is easy and fun plus it is a great way of improving vocab. There are many words that I have heard in songs and have stuck in my mind.

Die Toten Hosen, Die Ärzte and Kettcar are even better bands for German.
