DIY flash cards
Write your own flash cards for those words that just don't want to go in. Carry them with you, and look at them, or repeat them to yourself when you get a spare moment. For younger learners, you can get them to draw a visual aid alongside the words, then cut them in half to make jigsaws (cutting them in different ways) - to piece together again later.

Even better, use a flashcard website. They are really effective and often offer games to help you learn your flash cards plus you don't lose them.

Write your own. It reinforces memory.
