English adopts words from all kind of languages
I see that a few people have an apparent dislike for the English language, considering it an arbitrary mix of words from other languages. But it is much more than that. It may be a mix, but a mix of wonderful words. The thing that sets English apart is that we speakers of English never hesitate to adopt a new word, which gives English the ability to express what no other language can. With a vocabulary nearing to a million words, we far surpass any other language in the ways of expression. From the original language, Anglo-Saxon, we get the base, the most frequently used words. From Latin and Greek we get expression for ideas, scientific terms and words of grace. From French we get a similar array of words, words that we adopted because we found the former old English words too harsh or less favourable. Of course it doesn't stop there, we adopt words from all kinds of languages. I speak many languages, and I love them all for the qualities that they all possess.

I agree with Aric, people communicate in different languages, they exchange not only ideas but also words. These words start their life in this or that language.
Every language gets words from somewhere. Like the Japanese say "pan" for bread, like the french. I think it's cool because sometimes it means people from different places can understand each other.
