Ten Top Tips

  1. Make sure the clip sits well within the context of the lesson

  2. Explain how the clip fits with what has gone before and what will come afterwards

  3. Be clear as to what you want the learners to gain from the viewing

  4. Prepare worksheets/activities in advance

  5. Check the layout of the room; it's vital that everyone can see and hear properly

  6. Keep the clip short, otherwise attention tends to drift

  7. The soundtrack isn't all-important; the picture alone (moving or still) can be used as a prompt

  8. Don't ask learners to multi-task! Realistically, it's not possible to do more than tick boxes whilst watching and listening

  9. Offer a different task each time you show the clip and make it clear

  10. Equipment isn't always reliable; have a contingency plan ready!
