Watch, listen out for vocabulary and play bingo

Use these steps to...
...to practise listening for specific items and reinforce vocabulary already introduced.

Select video clips...
...featuring a recently covered topic.
  1. Before the session, prepare and copy a list of topic-related expressions from the video dialogue. Leave one or two words off your list and add in one or two that aren't related to the topic.

  2. Set the context of the film, give everyone a copy of the list of expressions and ask learners to find the two "odd" ones.

  3. Invite them to play a bingo game: give students a word document with a 4x4 empty table and ask them to fill it in with the words on the list. They can note them down in any order they like.

  4. Run the video clip and ask learners to tick the words from the list as they hear them. When they get four expressions in a row they score 1 point.

  5. Run the clip one last time, asking learners to listen out for any topic-related expressions that aren't on the list. If they discover the words they get a bonus point.
