Watch, listen and fill the gaps

Use these steps to...
...help learners keep pace with the dialogue. Learners often say that conversations with native speakers move too quickly.

Before the session...
...prepare copies of a transcript of the dialogue with some key words missing.
  1. In the target language appropriate to the level of the learners, explain the scenario of the chosen video clip.

  2. Invite suggestions as to some of the expressions that might come up in that context.

  3. Watch the video and ask if the suggested expressions featured or not.

  4. Give out copies of the transcript and ask the learners to listen again to the conversation, following it on the transcript and filling in the key words you have omitted.

  5. Play the clip one last time to confirm the results.
