Trujillo is an old city in the region of Extremadura in Western Spain.

Extremadura is the birthplace of two of the most famous Conquistadores - Hernan Cortés who conquered Mexico and Francisco Pizarro who conquered Peru.

Traditionally a poor farming area, many Extremeños left for the New World to try their luck. Those that prospered often returned home to build churches and palaces to show off their new wealth. This is particularly evident in Trujillo.
