The dictionary form of verbs: llevar, comer, preferir
To find your way around a menu, you can simply point at the items. But if you want to know more about the dishes you'll need to ask...
¿Qué lleva?What's in it?
Lleva comes from the verbllevar, to have, to carry
Verbs are words that express the idea of doing something or of something happening, easy to recognise in English because you can put to in front of them - to live, to be, to speak, to pay, to have.
When you look up Spanish verbs in a dictionary, you'll see that verbs end in -ar, -er or -ir.
llevarto have, to carry
comerto eat
preferirto prefer
This is called the infinitive. To indicate who is doing something and when it's being done you have to change this ending.
