The Spanish have access to more than 10 national newspapers plus a variety of specialised magazines. Top of the circulation list of serious broadsheets is the daily El País, which is fairly liberal in style and politics. This is followed by the conservative ABC and El Mundo. For sports news, the Spanish have their own daily, Marca. Most Spanish-speaking capitals will also have their own daily paper, usually referred to as el diario, the daily. These include La Nación in Buenos Aires, Argentina, El Mercurio in Santiago, Chile, El Espectador in Bogotá, Colombia, el Diario de México from Mexico City, and El Nacional from Caracas, Venezuela. All cover a mix of serious political news and local issues. Reflecting Spain's strong regional identities are the varied regional dailies tackling local issues, often in the regional language. Barcelona's El Periódico, for example, issues two versions, one in Spanish and another in Catalan, while el País Vasco, the Basque Country, produces papers in Basque - Deia is partly in Spanish while the more politically focussed Egin is exclusively in Basque. Finally, no country would be complete without its gossip magazines, and top of the list is ¡Hola!, a veritable Spanish media institution, now available around the world. If star spotting is not your thing, however, there are more educational alternatives with which to while away your mornings. One of these is the cheekily titled Muy interesante, literally "very interesting", a magazine covering popular science topics.
