Getting there
Health Insurance

The Spanish National Health Service provides free medical treatment to all citizens. In order to receive any sort of treatment, all you have to do is show your European Health Insurance Card.

Before leaving:

  • Get a European Health Insurance Card from the Post Office. This document is valid for the initial 3 months of your stay and entitles UK residents to free or low-cost medical treatment when abroad.
  • Consider private medical or travel insurance for what's not covered by the European Health Insurance Card.

Once you get there:

  • Ask around where the nearest public health facility, el centro de salud, is. The local British Embassy or Consulate may advise too.
