Driving in Spain

The main difference between driving in Britain and most of Europe is that they drive on the right.

Before leaving:

  • Get a nationality badge sticker to display at all times.

Once you get there:

  • Get your insurance sorted out. At least get a Third Party insurance, el seguro contra terceros, but full and comprehensive insurance, el seguro a todo riesgo, is also available.
  • Unless you already have the EU standard licence, you should exchange your old UK licence for a Spanish one, el permiso de conducir, once the initial 12 month period is up.
