How to say ‘we…’ and where you live - a few basics

Di dove siete?
Siamo di Venezia, ma abitiamo in Sardegna

  • To ask someone where they're from say Di dov'è? literally 'of where are you?' When talking to more than one person, the question is Di dove siete?


  • If asking a couple of people or more 'Do you live...?' you say Abitate...? The ending -ate replaces the -are ending of the dictionary form abitare, 'to live'.


  • To say 'we live' you say abitiamo. The -iamo ending on a verb means 'we'.


  • To say what town you live in, the Italian word for 'in' is a, but if you are talking about a region or country you generally use in.
