Giovanna Vaccaro
Hi, I'm Giovanna. I'm an Italian teacher and interpreter, and live and work in London. I've worked with the BBC for several years, presenting programmes like 'Language Fix' and writing material for 'Make Italian Your Business'. I also teach beginners and advanced students at the City Lit College in London.
I was born in a little village called Trissino near Vicenza, in the Veneto region of northern Italy. The region is one of the many beautiful corners of Italy, and is well known for towns like Verona, Padova and, of course, Venice. I've lived in England for 14 years. I first fell in love with England thanks to my father. He brought me on holiday to London when I was 14, and the beautiful bridges and wonderful architecture fascinated me. I later decided to come to England to study, and completed a degree in literature before starting teaching. I still love to travel, and working with languages has helped me to discover some wonderful places, such as Mozambique and Johannesburg, South Africa. I'm learning French at the moment, so hopefully will be able to travel and work even further afield. As a teacher I always tell my students not to be afraid to make mistakes. It's really important to play with the language you know - a few words can take you a long way and speaking with others really boosts your confidence. For me, learning a language is all about getting to know people and understanding their culture. There's so much to discover in Italy - wonderful food, great art and music, magical cities and stunning countryside - so dive in and, above all, have fun! |
