How to make suggestions and invitations - a few basics

Cosa facciamo?
Vuoi un gelato?
Offro io

  • To offer someone something, just say Vuole...? or Vuoi...?, literally 'Do you want...?' and to say that you're paying simply say Offro io, literally 'I'm offering'

  • To suggest doing something, just use the -iamo form of the verb. This corresponds to the English 'Shall we...?' or 'Let's...'

  • To say what you prefer, say Preferisco, 'I prefer'.

  • See how this works

    un gelato?
    un caffé
    in macchina?
    a piedi
Would you like an ice cream?
    I'd prefer a coffee
    Shall we go by car?
Let's walk (literally go on foot)
