Getting there
Driving in Italy

The main difference between driving in Britain and most of Europe is that they drive on the right.

Before leaving:

  • Get a nationality badge sticker to display at all times.

Once you get there:

  • Get your insurance sorted out. At least get a Third Party cover, l'assicurazione della responsabilità civile, but full and comprehensive insurance, il kasko, is also available.
  • If you have a UK Drivers' Licence, you may use it for up to one year after you arrive. Unless you already have the EU standard licence, you should exchange your old UK licence for an Italian one, la patente di guida, once the initial 12 month period is up.
