Getting there
Finding a job

German salaries are the highest in the world, averaging about £21 per hour. All EU nationals have the right to look for work in Germany. There are vacancies in all industries and a whole range of resources to consult. It's just a matter of knowing the best places to look.

Before leaving:

Once you get there:

  • Keep an eye on the job section, der Stellenmarkt, in German newspapers like Berliner Morgenpost, Die Welt , or Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
  • Have a look in the local Job Centre, das Arbeitsamt for possible vacancies in your region
  • German law prohibits employment without a Residence Permit. Once you've secured a job you should take your Registration Certificate, die Meldebescheinigung, to the Foreign Nationals Authority, das Ausländeramt, where you'll be issued with a a Residence Permit, eine Aufenthaltsgenehmigung and a Work Permit, eine Arbeitserlaubnis. British citizens don't require a Work Permit to work in Germany.

You'll need to take with you:

  • valid passport
  • proof of Employment
  • proof of Medical Insurance
  • 2 passport photos
