Getting there
Driving in Germany

The main difference between driving in Britain and most of Europe is that they drive on the right.

Before leaving:

  • Get a nationality badge sticker to display at all times.

Once you get there:

  • Get your insurance sorted out. At least get a Third Party insurance, die Haftpflichtversicherung, but full and comprehensive insurance, die Vollkaskoversicherung, is also available.
  • If you have a UK Drivers' Licence, you may use it for up to one year after you arrive. Unless you already have the EU standard licence, you should exchange your old UK licence for a German one, der Führerschein, once the initial 12 month period is up.
