Getting there
Name:    Vicki Dartnall
Age:    29
UK town of origin:    Marlborough, Wiltshire
Residence in Germany:    Berlin
Date of Arrival:    June 1996
Occupation:    Editor for English language software
Making the Move
Language graduate Vicki fell in love with Berlin when she was completing her year abroad from Nottingham University as a language assistant. Standing in front of a class of teenagers had been nerve wracking enough, but getting used to the city life was a huge step too. But by the end of her year, the tables had turned - she was having an amazing time and even decided to postpone finishing her degree. She did finally complete her studies, and immediately rushed back to her beloved Berlin.

Finding work wasn't as easy as Vicki had hoped. She made enquiries at the British Embassy and managed to secure an internship with the Oxford University Press. She spent a year there being trained as an editor. At the end of her internship, she managed to land a job as an editor for English language software.

Preparation
Admittedly, Vicki was so eager to get back to Berlin that her preparation was a bit lacking. But she survived! Eventually she got her Residence Permit sorted out.

Ambitions
Vicki has considered the possibility of becoming a freelance editor or author. However she is certain that she doesn't want to work in England.

Any Advice...?
"Just have the nerve to do it and know your rights as a citizen for a particular country."
