Language notes ich hätte, ich möchte, ich würde Ich hätte gerne ein Bier.  I would like a beer. Ich möchte zahlen.  I would like to pay. Ich würde mich freuen...  I would be delighted... German uses the subjunctive when expressing polite questions or polite statements.
