  • BBC Learning Zone broadcasts French language-learning series on a regular basis, between Monday night and Tuesday morning 1-6 am, on BBC Two. Website: bbc.co.uk/learningzone/langtravel/


  • BBC Four occasionally shows films and documentaries with some interviews in French with English subtitles. Website: bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/


  • French channels

    TV5 is an international TV channel promoting the French language and the culture of the countries where it's spoken. It's run by a consortium of the public broadcasters of France, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada, and shows programmes by all of them, plus some original ones, including news, chat-shows, quiz-shows, sit-coms, drama and documentaries.

  • Satellite - With a Sky subscription
    TV5 is broadcast as part of the Style and Culture bundle on Sky channel 805. The audio for Euronews on channel 509 can also be switched to French by changing the audio settings. Website: sky.com, euronews.net


  • Satellite - Without a Sky subscription
    You may opt for a satellite system without a subscription to receive free-to-air TV, including all the BBC channels. On top of TV5 you may get other French channels. Packages start around £150 plus installation as a one-off payment. Please consult your local satellite installer for details, stating you'd like to receive the French channels. Sky also offers
