English words normally have one syllable within a word stressed more strongly than the others.
| Paris | adult | continue |
Stressing French words in this way is a sure-fire clue that you’re an English speaker. Try to give all syllables equal stress in a French word, with a slight emphasis on the last full syllable of all:
| Paris adulte je continue |
| important impossible famille américain |
intéressant direction musique australienne |
