How to say what you do and where you work

Vous travaillez ici ?
Je travaille dans la presse
Je suis réceptionniste

  • To ask someone where they work, you can say Vous travaillez où ?, literally 'You work where?'

  • To say where you work, you can say Je travaille dans..., 'I work in...', and add your field of work.

  • Je travaille... and Vous travaillez... are forms of the verb travailler, to work. The endings of the verb change according to whether it goes with je, I, or vous, you.

  • The endings of other verbs, like parler, to speak, or habiter, to live, follow the same pattern and change in the same way.
