How to say 'you'

Tu as un accent. Tu es Anglais ?
Tu travailles en France ?

  • Every time you talk to someone, you'll need to know whether it's appropriate to call them tu or vous.

  • You use tu (sometimes called the 'informal you') for people you'd be on first-name terms with, and vous in more 'formal' situations, for example with people you would normally call Monsieur, Madame, or Mademoiselle.

  • When you address someone as tu or vous it will be shown in various other words in the sentence, for example the verb endings.

  • You always use vous when talking to more than one person, even if you'd call them tu individually.

Hi Pierre. You OK?

Eh! Pierre! François ! Vous allez bien ?
Hey Pierre! François! You OK?

Now practise using the tu and vous forms. Drag the correct verb into the gap to complete the sentences.
