More about using numbers

• Numbers 1-16 are all different words:

  0  zero 1  un 2  deux 3  trois 4  quatre 5  cinq 6  six 7  sept 8  huit 9  neuf 10  dix

  11  onze 12  douze 13  treize 14  quatorze 15  quinze 16  seize



• Numbers 17, 18, 19 start with 10.
  
  17 dix-sept, 'ten-seven'
  18 dix-huit, 'ten-eight'
  19 dix-neuf, 'ten-nine'



• The tens from 20 to 60 have their own word too.
  
  20  vingt
  30  trente
  40  quarante
  50  cinquante
  60  soixante



• For 70, 80 and 90, there's a particular formula.
  
  70  soixante-dix, 'sixty-ten'
  80  quatre-vingts, 'four-twenties'
  90  quatre-vingt-dix, 'four-twenty-ten'



• From 21 to 69 you combine tens and units as in English.
  But when there's a one involved, you say ...-et-un, literally '...and one'.

• From 71 to 79, you keep on counting in sixties

• From 80 to 89, you add one, two, three... after quatre-vingt

• From 91 to 99, you keep on counting in eighties
  
  91  quatre-vingt-onze, 'eighty-eleven'

  99  quatre-vingt-dix-neuf



• For hundreds, you use cent. You add an -s in the plural,
  unless it's followed by another number:

  400  quatre cents 500  cinq cents 600  six cents 700  sept cents 800  huit cents 900  neuf cents




• For thousands, you use mille - this never takes -s,
  even when talking about several thousands:
