How to talk about the weather


Il fait quel temps ?

  • To find out what the weather's like, you ask Il fait quel temps ? or Quel temps fait-il ? literally 'What weather is it doing?'


  • To say what the weather's like you use il fait... followed by a word like beau, 'fine', or chaud, 'hot', e.g. il fait beau, it's fine, or il fait chaud, it's hot.


  • To say it's sunny or it's windy, you add the word du, 'some' - il fait du soleil, it's sunny, and il fait du vent, it's windy.


  • To say it's raining or snowing, there are simple verbs - il pleut, it's raining, and il neige, it's snowing.
