How to describe things

Un verre de vin rouge
Je prends un sandwich au saucisson
Je prends un thé au lait

  • A big difference in French is that adjectives - words like big, small, red, white - usually come after the word they describe, not before.

  • When you want to say what something contains, such as food and drink, you use a phrase with à, which in this case roughly translates as 'with'.

  • à changes when it's followed by the words le or les, 'the', and becomes au and aux.
