Getting there
Name:    Rhys Fish
Age:    21
UK town of origin:    Cardiff
Residence in France:    Paris
Date of Arrival:    September 2000
Occupation:    Tourist Officer
Making the Move
As part of his course in French and International Management at Bath University, Rhys had to spend a year abroad working in a relevant industry. He managed to get a work placement in the Marketing Department of the British Tourist Authority in Paris. After 12 months of hard work, Rhys has now returned to Bath to finish his degree.

Preparation
The work placement was organised by the British Tourist Authority and his home university, so he didn't have the extra worry of trying to find work. The summer before he was due to leave, he spent a weekend sorting out accommodation. He and his friends looked through a variety of accommodation magazines and secured a flat in the 15th arrondissement. Rhys also made sure he had the right medical insurance as well.

Ambitions
Once he has graduated, Rhys would like to go to Australia and New Zealand for a few months. After that, he hopes to work in Europe, possibly on a Graduate Training Scheme.

Any Advice...?
"It's worth sorting out your accommodation in advance to avoid having to stay in a youth hostel. It's useful to have a grasp of the language before you go but you soon improve and can often find an English speaker if in real trouble. A year living abroad is an opportunity that must be grabbed with both hands - it might never happen again!"
