As an Englishman
living in the USA, I instantly took an interest in this story.

50 years on. By Simon Johnson.
What is your story about?
The return of my father and father-in-law to Normandy for the 50th Anniversary
were there we discovered they both landed on the same beach, within 20
hours of each other.
did you choose to tell this particular story?
I chose this
particular story because it was an opportunity not to miss.
We go through life saying "if only we had done..... ".
want to say this about the 50th anniversary, and thank goodness I did
go through with the organising of it.
- It was
the last opportunity, as my father-in-law Harry Blackledge died a little
over 12 months later.
Whilst over there we made recordings of both men reminiscing about their
war-experiences, which we now have for posterity.
the experience of making your digital story like?
It was a great experience having to write a story in such a concise way,
but to still try and get the story across.
The writing workshops helped to focus and concentrate that process.
The input from the others taking part made you realise the importance
of a particular aspect of your own story, whilst you could help them in
a similar way.
of the experience I didn't really expect was the emotion I and many others
would go through when telling our stories.
But all the team were extremely supportive of helped everyone to achieve
the highest possible standard of storytelling.
