Lost and Found by Kate

Please tell us about yourself:
I am twenty-two-years of age, living in Manchester 5 years, involved in a group called Y.I.P.P.E.E. (Barnardos) I do voluntary participation work for 42nd Street (a counselling service for young people).

What is your story about?
My story is about leaving care and what it is like when you are in care and moving about from place to place. My story is also about when I left my home town and what it was like be homeless and alone in Manchester, I had left so many friends behind. At first I was alone living in a big city with no friends and then made new friends in Manchester.

Why did you choose to tell this particular story?
I think my story is very different from other people's stories. My story was about moving away from a familiar area and starting up again in a new place. I thought it would be interesting talking about selling the 'Issue' and to make the point that most people do not want to be homeless but sometimes it is necessary to put yourself in that situation so as to improve your standard of living.

What was the experience of making your digital story like?
I really enjoyed it. I found it a lot of fun. One strange part though; it was much more of an emotional experience than I had anticipated. A lot of old wounds were opened up. It brought back at lot of memories good and bad.
