Retirement Retread - That's Me
by Fred Robinson
tell us about yourself:
I am seventy years of age and have been retired since 1991, after
a lifetime career working in the aerospace industry. The majority of this
time was spent in Bristol, although the nature of the work enabled me
to travel world wide. I have been married for 49 years, and have three
grown- up children. My wife and I were both brought up in the North-West
of England and are very happy to be living in this area since we moved
from the South-West more than eight years ago. My interests include IT
and computers in general.
your story about?
Four years after retirement I took an AC&G course as a voluntary tutor
in Literacy and Numeracy. After six months teaching as a teaching assistant
at Morecambe College I was asked to join the staff at Lancaster Farms
Young Offenders. I had no experience of prison or young adults. I stayed
for five years before retiring for a second time.
you choose to tell this particular story?
I really enjoyed the Lancaster Digital Storytelling workshop I attended
and wanted the opportunity to make another story.
the experience of making your digital story like?
Again rather intense concentration was required. But it was a very enjoyable
experience. The relationship with other members of the storytelling group
and the BBC team was wonderful. I am now considering making another digital
story for a voluntary group I work with.
