Life's
Experiences by Jack Trickett
Please
tell us about yourself.
Born June 1908 at Newchurch in Rossendale. I attended Waterfoot Infant
School and then Waterfoot Council School.
At the age
of twelve I started work as a half timer which means working
mornings one week and afternoons the following week whilst attending school
the other half days.
At the age
of thirteen, I left school and started full-time work 8am to 5.30pm in
a footwear factory. Three months later, I became apprenticed to a cabinet
making firm. My apprenticeship was for seven years.
When conscription became law I registered as a conscientious objector.
I have been
happily married to Edna for 64 years. In spite of the difficult times
we experienced, my wife, at all times has given me, her unfailing support.
What is
your story about?
My life as a conscientious objector and having been sent to prison as
a result I think makes it interesting to others. Also, because I'm older,
the team wanted me to tell my story.
Why did
you choose to tell this particular story?
My story explains
how my decision affected my life and how many years later I was asked
to join a campaign to preserve a war memorial where I live.
What was
the experience of making your digital story like?
I enjoyed it very much. I thought it was efficiently arranged. It was
a pleasure meeting the team and other people.
