Take one Brett Davison and his trusty navigator, and fire them
down the world's most treacherous dirt tracks, icy roads and mountain
lanes in a highly tuned, turbo-charged car. Or a Skoda.
The
inherent problem with the Playstation's controller comes to the
fore with driving games. So unless you want to shell out for a
steering wheel controller you are always at a disadvantage. However
if you were tempted to buy the accessory then WRC04 would be reason
enough.
The
attention to detail is superb. A particularly nice touch is the
damage you inflict on the car so if you are as poor driver as
me, or as good as the keypad will allow, your once pristine Lancia/Citroen/Skoda
(yes Skoda!) looks more like the final entrant in a demolition
derby at a stock car meet.
More
options would be good, and make a real difference. The commentary
- basically informing you of the severity of the next turn gets
a bit whiney after a while. But all in all this is as good a driving
game as currently on the market.
I just wish that once you get into a spot of bother (and you will
!) - you could rejoin the track rather than have to do a 16 point
turn, utilising reverse. It may be realistic but it's hardly thrilling.
