This five piece Blackburn band have already caused quite a stir with their controversial name. We take a look at The Fashionable Winos to see what all the fuss is about.

Described as an "eclectic mix of funk, rock and alternative music" The Fashionable Winos are one of the hottest local bands around. Made up of Laurie, Dan, Munky, Stefan and Greg the band hope to appeal to music lovers of all ages.

Like any good band the Fashionable Winos were formed after a night out drinking. Despite this the band insist that their name does not encourage teenagers to get drunk, like many worried parents have suggested.

Vocalist Laurie Peacock said: "We tried out loads of names but none of them seemed right. Then we were just walking through town and we saw these tramps dressed in Gucci suits and the name just stuck after that."

Guitarist Greg adds, "It was just meant to be an oxymoron, we never thought it would be seen as controversial."

With the controversy over their name dying down the band have had time to focus on the important job of recording their debut single.

Also in the pipeline is a short tour during October and November when the band hope to increase their already large fan base.
