When
did you start DJ'ing and why?
I
first started dj'ing nine years ago when I was nineteen. The inspiration
came from my Dad (known as Dj Superfly) who used to dj himself in
the 70's and 80's.
Many a night I would be stood on the Wigan Pier dance floor thinking
That was a bad mix or they should have mixed something
else in there.
So thats what made me start. I wanted to take the knowledge
that I had picked up on the dance floor into the DJ booth.
What
sort of music do you play?
The
main type of music that I play (which is my passion) is deep and
funky house. I like it deep, dirty and funky, and like to throw
in some latino beats here and there.
Do you have a fave outfit for DJing in?
Not really anything goes. One of my favourite outfits worn was
when I was playing at my own night called SOULED OUT. It was a themed
night and was called 'Who's Yeh Daddy?' Myself and Jaye Hargreaves
(business partner) dressed up as pimps. I wore a big microphone
affro wig, handle bar moustache, leopard skin coat and to finish
it off - a gold walking stick.Yeah baby!!!
What do you drink when you're on the job?
Anything i'm usually a right mess by the end of the night, a
manageable mess though. My favourite drink at the moment is Vodka
Martini with ice.
Fave
ever club to party at and to DJ at?
There's only one place and that's SPACE(Ibiza). The place is
amazing and the atmosphere is electric. It gets better every year.
The best place that I played at would have to be Glastonbury, it
was excellent. I played in the VIP marquee were the performers go
to party when they had finished performing.
I
had Roni Size to my right and Maxi Jazz from Faithless to my left
and 200 celebrities absolutely rockin it infront of me. WICKED.
How do you wind down/or do you carry on partying after your set?
Wind down! You must be joking my girlfriend won't let me - she's
a right party animal.
On a typical Saturday night out we usually end up finishing around
late Sunday afternoon and that's only because we need to be right
for work the next day.
Who
would you class as the world's best DJ?
Well there's a question. I judge dj's by the quality of music they
play, technical ability and their interaction with the crowd. Got
to be Carl Cox for his technical ability and Brandon Block for his
full on party attitude.
If
it's just not happening - what's your fool-proof to get everyone
buzzing?
George
Thornby 'When I'm cleaning windows', - naar only kidding! Da Hool.
'Meet
her at the love parade' always tears the roof off.
If you could pick any club/event to Dj at where would it be?
Plain
and simple -SPACE.
DJing
- does it have pulling power?
Well
if I wasn't dj'ing I wouldn't have got it on with the girl I am
seeing now so I suppose you could say yes.
Where do you go on a typical night out partying?
Well
if I'm not playing I usually go and watch one of my mates play like
Oliver Lang which
is always good because he gets around if you know what I mean. When
I am not busy I am usually busy organising the next Souled Out event.
What's
the naughtiest thing you've done on a nite out?
Well there are a few that come to mind but one of the most wreckless
- but enjoyable ones - was when my girlfriend and I were in Ibiza
for the closing parties with Jaye Hargreaves and his girlfriend.
We decided not to get on our
plane because we were having such a great time at DC10.
Now this is not a good idea right at the end of the season. We actually
saw our plane fly over us because the club is at the end of the
runway. We had to wait another four days for a flight to Liverpool.
The next flight after that was in two weeks!!! I missed four days
of work which went down well.
