Play It Again: Eric Morecambe

We pay tribute to Eric Morecambe, one of our greatest comedians who died 25 years ago last month...

Joan Morecambe

Joan Morecambe

Morecambe and Wise were best known for their inventive comedy sketches, song and dance routines, and appearances from stars as Shirley Bassey, Glenda Jackson - and who can forget the classic with "Andrew Preview?"

Gerald Jackson has found a a real gem in our archives, a programme he put together back in 1982... it includes an interview Eric did for BBC Radio Lancashire before his death, and we also hear from Joan Morecambe who spoke to us when the famous statue on Morecambe promenade was unveiled some ten years ago....

The man was a genius comedian. Better than any medication for lifting the Spirit. Much missed. Best sketch? All of 'em.

My fave M & W sketch is the Troika sketch. Eric and Ernie are in a sleigh and the reins keep pulling Eric out of his seat! Very funny!!!

Lesley Russell
Singing in the Rain sketch is hilarious and one of the best. I can watch it over and over again.
