Robin Sharples

Local artist: Robin Sharples

Robin lives in Rossendale, where he enjoys painting mills and moorlands...

Robin's profile...

"I am a 43 year old self-taught amateur artist working in watercolour.

My subjects are primarily the mill-scapes of the North West of England and the West Riding of Yorkshire. I am fascinated by the contrast between the remnants of our past textile heritage and the rugged moorland backdrop, so often associated with this part of the world.

I took up painting in 2007, whilst recuperating from an unexpected stay in a local intensive care unit, and it has since become an all consuming passion.

In 2008, I was commissioned to produce a watercolour illustration for a new book on the legendary steeplejack, Fred Dibnah, recently written by Alan McEwan and I am currently producing an illustration for another book on pack horse bridges."
