Suzanne Edgar

Blackpool gets the heads up

Designer Suzanne Edgar has put her home town of Blackpool ahead in the fascinator fashion stakes...

The Blackpool Fascinator

Edgar proved the resort isn't old hat by featuring the best bits of Blackpool in her latest creation 'The Blackpool Fascinator'.

The 33-year-old - who works for an electrical company - has been designing fascinators since 2006 after buying one for a friend's wedding...and thought she could do hat!

Hundreds of fascinators later and Edgar was asked to design the 'Big One' - representing all things Blackpool. She was certainly up for the challenge to make the first Blackpool themed fascinator.

The colour scheme is not surprisingly Blackpool FC's tangerine and white in honour of the Tangerine Army and includes a stick of Blackpool Rock, a bucket and spade, a donkey and a miniature Blackpool Tower.

She said: "I am really pleased with the end result...it's fabulous!"

Edgar - who now has her own online shop - designs headpieces for weddings and special occasions and is branching out to do special occasion handbags and shoes.

Edgar explains how fascinators are becoming more popular as an alternative to hats.

She said: "They are becoming more popular to all kinds of age ranges, especially the younger generation who don’t like to wear hats.  They can be worn all day, where as a hat you take off and it can mess your hair. Fascinators are more comfortable and don’t make your head hot. "

She would love one day to have Sex in the City's Sarah Jessica Parker wearing her designs but, in the meantime, her six-year-old daughter Lucy loves showcasing her designs at parties.
