Weekend PresentersYou are in: Lancashire > Radio Lancashire > Weekend Presenters > Alex Entwistle ![]() Alex EntwistleAlex promises to provide you with a relaxing soundtrack to your Sunday afternoons... "I’ve lived in the village of Edenfield since my birth. Some people would say that’s a little bit sad, but I don’t agree. It’s got everything I need – a butchers, paper shop, chemist, THE best chippy and bakers I’ve ever tasted (although I may be a little biased) and three pubs at my disposal! Older friends and relatives always said that you grow up fast and need to make the most of your youth. It only seems like yesterday I was at high school, but now I find myself well settled with my lovely wife, a little Jack Russell and the mortgage! After college, I studied and graduated as a Bachelor of Arts at Salford University and took a GAP year to go to Australia on tour with a band I was in at the time. This is where my biggest claim to fame comes in… All the band members are Man City fans and we [Supra] did a rock version of “Blue Moon” which was played at Maine Road before the team came out and we were asked to perform on the pitch at the start of the season to over 35,000 people. It was an amazing experience. They have since come to their senses and no longer use it, although Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton still enters the ring to the sound of me pummelling the drums! After the band struggled to take off I decided it was time to get “a proper job” and started working behind the scenes with the BBC Radio Lancashire's Sport team. That was five years ago and I've loved every minute of it. I'm looking forward to providing a relaxing soundtrack to your Sunday afternoon. I'll be continuing the popular gardening phone-in, keeping an eye on the sport and supplying a great mix of music." ----- Loves:Without question the most important things in my life are my wife and family, but a very close second comes music, drums, steak and chips! Hates:Rude people and mushrooms. Favourite type of music:There are only two types of music in my book - good and bad – it doesn’t matter what genre. My spectrum ranges from classical to the loudest, fastest heavy dirge on the planet and everything in between, but as long as it’s good I’ll like it! Your motto:It’s an old one, but this nugget of wisdom was first passed on to me by my Gran, God bless her, "Treat others as you would like to be treated". I think if you stick to that, you can’t go too far wrong. Party Piece:No comment…only my closest friends know. Favourite Lancashire places:I’m very lucky to have stunning surroundings so close to home and my two favourite places in Lancashire have got to be Plunge and Holcombe Hill. Plunge is a little known beauty spot that lies at the foot of Scout Moor (home to Lancashire’s newest wind turbines). There are woodlands, mill ruins and a stream running through it and I have many happy memories of picnicking, camping and generally messing around up there as a youngster. The view from the top of Holcombe Hill on a clear day is stunning, you can see right across the county and beyond. At the turn of the millennium a very close bunch of friends, my (now) wife and I spent part of the evening up there with thousands of others in the pouring rain next to the millennium torch – it was a very memorable night for all! ---- last updated: 16/07/2009 at 14:33 SEE ALSOYou are in: Lancashire > Radio Lancashire > Weekend Presenters > Alex Entwistle |
