Learning to cross the road

Make the Difference

With around 70 people killed and 9,000 injured on Lancashire’s roads every year, Lancashire County Council’s Road Safety Group need you to pledge your support to make our roads safer...

Lancashire County Council’s Road Safety Group works with many organisations on a national and local level to improve road safety awareness in Lancashire.  The aim of the Group is to reduce road casualties through the delivery of Road Safety education, driver, rider and child pedestrian training, along with publicity to help make Lancashire a safer place in which to walk, cycle, ride and drive.

Together with the Road Safety Group, BBC Radio Lancashire are hoping to 'Make the Difference' so everyone in Lancashire can get information and advice about road safety. Now in its tenth year, and about to celebrate its tenth birthday, over 26,000 individuals and organisations have signed up and pledged their support to help make Lancashire’s roads safer.

How can you make the difference?

You can make the difference by pledging to take responsibility for your own actions and trying to be a more careful and considerate road user.  To help inspire you the Road Safety Group have put together some ideas to help you on a more enjoyable journey. You don’t have to make big changes, you could start just by following these small steps...

  • Get up a few minutes earlier in the morning so you’re not in a rush to get to work, you can sit back and relax and you might even enjoy your journey
  • Let someone out in front of you, you might be given the same opportunity when it’s your turn
  • Remember your road manners, if someone lets you out always thank them, they might stop doing it otherwise
  • Rolling of eyes, mouthed insults and rude hand gestures might let off steam but remember we’ve all made mistakes in the past.  Surprise them with a smile (even if it’s behind gritted teeth)
  • If you get stuck in traffic – don’t get angry because it’s not going to get you anywhere any faster - just relax and use the time to chill out

Pledge your support…
