"I have had Asperger's Syndrome all my life but it was only diagnosed at the age of 26 in 2009. Like many people with similar issues I have suffered discrimination in varying intensities, some of it quite bad but most of the time my unconquerable attitude of "plain bloody-mindedness" has always won the day and got me through. Since 2007 I have led life (for 99.9% of the time anyway) at a steady pace, using the personal qualities that bring out the best in me. One of those is creativity. I have been involved with the ART 4 U group that meets every Friday Morning at Darwen Resource Centre of which many of the group have 'been through the care system'. When I am there I am at home among fellow artists who more than make up for any shortcomings in the art they produce. I am as much involved in painting as I am with pottery. As with a lot of things progression on painting and pottery is a learning curve. It has taken me time to get to the stage where I am now and I believe I am still learning and still progressing and developing. ![]() Another of David Robinson's paintings People with autism are wonderfully gifted and their qualities ought to be recognised and acknowledged." • David Robinson's work will be showcased in the 2026 Exhibition area at BBC Radio Lancashire, Darwen Street, Blackburn from Monday 15th June 2009. last updated: 23/06/2009 at 11:31 SEE ALSOYou are in: Lancashire > Radio Lancashire > Open Centre > What's on in the Open Centre...David Robinson |
