Under 7s: Fleetwood Town v St.Annes
By George Preston
St Annes finished the victors in a closely fought A team tussle with Fleetwood Town Under 7s...while the B teams finished all square.
Fleetwood Town A 0-1 St.Annes A
This turned out to be a very even match. St Annes started the stronger and for the first 10 minutes had more possession but Fleetwood came right back into it and produced several of their own chances. In a very even half the score was 0-0 at half time.
Into the second half Fleetwood had most of the pressure for the first 10 minutes including several corners in succession but St. Annes held firm. The away team started coming back into it and were rewarded when Rory K picked up on a throw in and took the ball for a run holding off a number of challenges then making the Fleetwood goalkeeper produce a great save. With the ball looping in the air it was left to Noah F to nod in the rebound. 1-0 St Annes.
Several more chances came after the goal including a stinging shot from Aidan P that the Fleetwood goalie managed to save and turn round the post.
Final score 1-0.
A great second half performance by the St Annes lads against a very good and strong home Fleetwood Town. Overall it was a tremendous match with two very competent teams giving their all in an enthralling encounter.
Fleetwood Town B 2-2 St.Annes B
St Annes started this second match really well managing several corners in a good 5 minute spell but unfortunately were unable to convert any of them.
The away team continued to pressure throughout the first half but, totally against the run of play Fleetwood Town scored with 5 minutes left of the first half. Both St Annes defence and goalkeeper made great attempts to keep the ball out but it was all to no avail as the home team took the lead.
The St Annes lads felt hard done by losing that goal and they promptly ran up the park to equalise. Jamie VW made a great run but was fouled just as he was about to shoot. The resulting free kick (from Alex P)shot into the net like a bullet even with the Fleetwood goalkeeper making a great attempt to keep it out. This meant the first half finished all square.
Shortly after the second half started St Annes took the lead after picking up on a clearance by the Fleetwood goalkeeper. Oliver O picked up on the keepers clearance then picked his spot to give the away team a 2-1 lead.
Fleetwood picked themselves up after going down 2-1 and had several chances to equalise including a great run by Sheldon only to be spurned by Jamie VW and Olli G keeping goal for the away team.
St Annes tried to increase their lead hitting the post and keeping the home goalkeeper busy but it was not to be. Fleetwood, with only a few minutes left scored their deserved equaliser with a great goal on the break.
Overall, the match was tough for both teams. St.Annes probably shaded it in possession but with the home teams determination the scoreline of 2-2 was probably a fair result.
