The Substance

The Substance

The Accrington boys talk about headlining at the Cavern, being influenced by The Who and gigging in their undies...

More about The Substance...

Where are you from?

Accrington

Who plays what?

Ryster (Ryan Lacock): Vocals and Guitar
Leemo (Chris Leeming): Guitar and Vocals
Rob Green: Bass
Danny Astin: Drums

Got any bad habits?

We're all perfect... if you take away the normal stuff like farting and urinating out of windows. :P

What's the band's history so far?

The roots of The Substance date back to the summer of 2006 when guitarist, Leemo and lead vocalist, Ryster got together to write songs. They soon recruited good friend and bassist Rob Green and proceeded to search for a drummer. After various setbacks The Substance were eventually formed in January 2007.

With all band members having a range of different influences and ideas many we've written many types of songs, which have lead to a unique blend of material. We've played at many venues throughout the North West such as The Cavern, Liverpool and Night and Day Cafe, Manchester, and are planning to move further afield to enhance our fan base.

Style and influences?

We are most likely to be classed as Indie-Rock but we are unique and don't really have a direct blueprint. Our influences include The Stone Roses, The Doors, The Who, The Charlatans, Radiohead, The Cure, New Order, Joy Division, etc.

Best moment so far?

There's been a few highlights. Headlining at The Cavern in Liverpool in front of more than 80 of our fans last November. Headling at Night and Day Cafe in Manchester. Going down to Westbourne Studios in London to record some of our songs with former Members guitarist JC Carroll.

Worst/most embarrassing moment so far?

There haven't been too many but to name one: Former drummer Scott turning up three hours late for a recording session covered in vomit. He ended up playing in his boxers.

What's your favourite song? Or which song do you wish you'd written?

Rob: For me that'd be Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who. That song has everything!

Anything else we should all know about?

Yeah check out our website!

If any band should be successful, this is the band The Substance !!And that is just what they are.Lsten to their lyrics ie modern age, conscience, tormented mind. Straight from the heart ,blunt.Thats what we want isnt it. Not mushy false, feelgood lyrics.Four men, completely unique, but, come together to build some of the most atmospheric sounds since Simple Minds or U2.All from sunny lancashire, what more do you want!

The Substance are destined for big things in the future!!! :) x
