Under 14s: Squires Gate 2 Foxhall 5
Foxhall made the early running and was soon asking the questions of Squires keeper with both Ben D and Joe H both making the keeper into a save. Ben D then hit the post when he ghosted past two defenders only to see his shot cannon off the post. From that resulting effort Squires broke away and scored with almost their first effort. (1-0)
This spurred the Foxhall on and replied almost straight away when Joe H drifted past two markers to chip the advancing keeper.(1-1).
In a action packed first half Foxhall nudged ahead when again Joe H made no mistake to slot past the helpless keeper after good approach work from Mark S and Ollie C. (1-2)
Tails where up but within minutes a sucker punch allowed Gate to equalise when a hesitant rear guard allowed Gate to score with a well driven shot giving James G no chance. (2-2)
Foxhall stuck at their task and with some excellent wing play involving Chris W and Jordan W chances went a begging but Foxhall had no one in the box to convert. However, Foxhall restored their lead when Ben D again was hacked down and from the resulting free-kick Ollie C curled in a beauty to take Foxhall into a (2-3) lead going into the interval.
Sam W, Isaac G, John W and Fran D were solid but at times a lack of communication brought chaos and it resulted into Foxhall being punished and gave Squires their goals. HT: 2-3
From the off Foxhall went straight for the jugular and where soon carving opening in a tired rearguard of Gate with Jordan W, Ben D and Joe H all making the keeper work hard.
Ben D opened his account when a fantastic ball through from Ollie C found Ben D who raced on to it to neatly chip the goalie (2-4).
Within minutes Ben D grabbed his second when he finished superbly into the bottom corner (2-5) Gate threatened at times but was marshalled by the excellent Sam W, Guy D and John W.
Foxhall freshened things up a bit with the introduction of Tyler A who almost scored with his first touch but was denied by a last gasp tackle from the Gate defender. Again Foxhall introduced Matty H and James D who both slotted into a well oiled Foxhall machine with the latter causing havoc with his penetrating runs which was a problem for the Gate rearguard. Late on keeper James G pulled off an splendid save which denied the Gate any comeback whatsoever.
Full Time: Squires Gate 2-Foxhall 5
Summary – A pleasing performance from everyone but at times we still need to work as hard off the ball as we do with it. A little rusty at times with the passing but that will come! Overall, a good day at the office.
